The South Metropolitan Cricket Association (SMCA) was formed in 1996 following the merger of the South Suburban Cricket Association and the Fremantle and Districts Mercantile Cricket Association.

The 2025–26 season marks 30 years since the formation of the SMCA. To celebrate this milestone, a special 30th Anniversary function is being planned at the conclusion of the upcoming season, along with the release of a commemorative publication highlighting the history and achievements of the Association.
