Hi everyone,

My name is Sean Ingram, and I am pleased to introduce myself as the new

Umpires Advisor for the SMCA for the 2026/27 season.

My goal in this role is to build stronger relationships with clubs and

captains, creating an environment where feedback is shared regularly,

constructively, and consistently. I believe that open communication will

strengthen the relationship between captains, players, and umpires,

ultimately benefiting everyone involved in the game.

The feedback and ratings provided by captains play a vital role in the

development of our umpires. This information is used for coaching and

mentoring purposes, while also providing valuable data to assist with

umpire appointments and consideration for awards such as Umpire of the

Year and Most Improved Umpire.

My Vision

My vision is to foster a stronger and more connected umpiring community

within the SMCA. By building positive relationships and creating open

lines of communication, I hope to contribute to a better experience for

both players and umpires.

In the long term, I want the SMCUA to be recognised as a welcoming and

respected umpiring association that attracts new umpires, former SMCA

players, and others interested in becoming involved in cricket

officiating.

Providing Meaningful Feedback

When completing your umpire reports, I ask that you genuinely consider

the scores and comments you provide. Your feedback is critical in

helping us recognise outstanding performances and identify opportunities

for development.

As a guide:

8/10 represents a well-officiated game and should be considered the

benchmark for a solid performance.

9 or 10/10 should be reserved for exceptional performances. If awarding

these scores, please provide specific examples so we can share what made

the umpire stand out and use those examples in future development

programs.

6 or 7/10 indicates a below-average performance and should be

accompanied by constructive feedback that can be discussed with the

umpire as part of their development.

5/10 or below represents a significant concern. If these scores are

submitted, I will contact you directly to better understand the

circumstances and ensure we address any issues appropriately.

Your Feedback Matters

Please know that every report and comment is reviewed carefully. The

quality, consistency, and honesty of the feedback you provide directly

impacts our ability to support, mentor, and develop our umpires, while

also improving the experience of players across the SMCA.

Without your considered and constructive input, it becomes much more

difficult to achieve these outcomes.

Let's Keep the Conversation Open

If at any stage you would like to discuss an umpire, provide additional

feedback, or simply have a conversation about umpiring within the SMCA,

please don't hesitate to contact me.
