The South Metropolitan Cricket Association was formed in 1996 after a merger of the South Suburban Cricket Association and the Fremantle and Districts Mercantile Cricket Association.

The Association fosters cricket in suburbs south of the Swan River, from Fremantle to Cannington, Serpentine to Kwinana.  There are currently 21 Clubs affiliated with the SMCA as well as an Umpires Association.

The Association is administered by an Executive Committee which is elected each year by the Clubs at the Annual General Meeting.
