PENALTY

Report:

Jacob Landsmeer advised Riverton Rostrada that the SMCA had received a complaint that a social media post had been made that may have breached the SMCA social media policy. This was in reference to a post on their facebook page about an umpire giving a lbw decision whilst the player hit the ball.

Tribunal notes:

Riverton Rostrada pleaded not guilty and did not believe that the post breach the Social Media Policy and/or their own guidelines and stood by the post and deemed it acceptable. When asked why did they take it down and they responded that the SMCA advised them to. They were asked who was the author of the post and we were advised that the club was responsible and wouldn’t provide the name. The Panel then asked Norm what impact this would have on an umpire and if the umpire in the vision was aware of it. Norm stated that they had decided to keep this from him as he would not have been happy with it.

Penalty:

The panel deliberated and decided that Riverton Rostrada had breached the social media policy. They also took into account the club’s refusal to supply the panel the name of the author of the post and the fact that they were adamant that they had not breached any rules. Riverton Rostrada were fined $750 and suspended from the club championships award.
