Cricket West 2010-11

The South Metropolitan Cricket Association (SMCA) is linked to the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), the peak cricket body in WA, and Cricket Australia, as an affiliated member of Cricket West.

Cricket West is made up of the five metropolitan community cricket associations. Members are; the SMCA, North Suburban Community Cricket Association (NSCCA) Perth Cricket Association (PCA), Swan and Helena Districts Cricket Association (SHDCA) and West Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association (WASTCA).

The main objective of Cricket West is to encourage and foster the game of Cricket in every way possible. Its role is to also promote and control inter-Association competition between the Metropolitan Cricket Associations outside of the WACA District Competition; to control and manage all teams representing Cricket West; and to provide facilities for the competitions within its power.

As part of its Cricket West affiliation, each season SMCA players compete in the Cricket West Cup competition. Three teams from the SMCA compete in the seniors, colts and veterans competitions. The Cricket West Cup provides players with the opportunity to test their skills against other talented players from these leagues, in a higher level of competition. It also encourages younger players to consider pursuing their capabilities at a higher level.

The Cricket West Committee is made up of the respective Presidents from the SMCA, PCA, SHDCA, WASTCA and NSCCA. One member of Cricket West is appointed to the WACA Board.

The Cricket West Match Committee is made up of the Secretary and delegates from each of the five associations, with an employee from the WACA Cricket Department appointed to act in the role of Cricket West Match Committee Secretary. Each Association provides a delegate to the Cricket West Match Committee to help determine the running of the Cricket West Cup competition.

Teams from Cricket West, including the SMCA, also compete in the WACA’s annual State-Wide 20-20 competition.
